In April 2006 nine gymnasts and two coaches went to bangor, Northern Ireland, to take part in the Northern Ireland Open Championships. The gymnasts were very grateful to Billing Parish Council, The Becketts & Sargeants Educational Foundation & the Rotary Club of the Nene Valley all of whom had supported the team in this venture.
The gymnasts performed well and achieved several high placings against fellow gymnasts from Northern Ireland, Eire, Scotland & England. It was a good experience for the team as it was the first time they had performed under the New Rhythmic Code, containing many changes since the Olympic Games .
All the gymnasts gained from their competition experience to achieve well in the County Grades competition in Northampton in May. Elizabeth Moore-Thompson won a silver medal in Grade 9 (the highest grade), Sarah Proud won a gold medal at Grade 8, Amy Warner won a bronze medal at Grade 6 and Helen Proud won the silver medal at Grade 5.
At the last championships of the season, the County Championships, the club again came away with medals. Sarah Proud very narrowly missed winning the Junior Championship Trophy, but was delighted with her silver medal won against stiff opposition from the Northampton & Nene Valley Clubs. Amy Warner came 2nd in the Under 12 Rope & Ball section with Natasha MC.Dowell coming a close 4th. Katy Vyse (still in the under 8 age group) won the bronze medal in the Under 10 free Section.
This has been another successful year for the club rounded off with two displays. One was at the Billing Annual Fayre when over twenty gymnasts from 4 to 17 years participated, showing hoop, rope & clubs work. The second display was at The Methodist Homestead, to help celebrate their 75th anniversary.
The club trains at Bellinge Primary School, on Thursdays, from 5.30 to 6.30 for the under 8's and from 6.30 to 7.30 for the over 8's. If interested please pop along and have a look.
